Operating systems need some way of ensuring that all necessary process exist. In very simple systems, or systems designed to execute a single application, it may be possible that the whole process that it will become necessary to be present when the system is approaching.
In systems general use, however, somehow it takes to create and finish. In general use systems, however, somehow it takes to create and terminate processes, as necessary during the operation.
There are four major events that cause the processes that are believed to system initialization, the execution of a call system process created by a running process, a user request to create a new process, and the start of a batch job. When an operation system boots, it usually creates several processes.
Some of these are foreground processes, ie processes that interact with users and perform work for them. Others are background processes that are not associated with individual users, but have a specific function. A background process can be designed to accept incoming mail, most of the day sleeping but suddenly come to life when email arrives.
Another background process can be designed to accept incoming requests for Web pages hosted on that machine, wake up when a request arrives to meet the request. Process remain background to handle any type of activity such as email, web pages, news print, etc., are called demons.
Large systems often have dozens of them. On UNIX, the ps program can be used to list running processes. In windows task manager is used.
In addition to the processes created at boot time, new processes can be created then as well. Often, a process running issue system calls to create one or more new processes to help you do your job. The creation of new processes is particularly useful when the work to be done can be formulated in terns sea of several related but otherwise independent interaction processes.
In interactive systems, users can start a program by typing a command or by clicking an icon.

Take any of these actions when a new process and runs the selected program on it. On UNIX-based systems running Windows XP commands, The new process takes over the window where it started. In both systems, users may have a window, but you can create one and most do. A mouse can interact with the process.
