Bios password protected?
Hey Im thinking of buying a computer off eBay. Heres what the owner had to say about it. Acer Veriton 2800, Desktop, Black, 1 x Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 2.80Ghz, 1024MB RAM, 160GB SATA HDD, DVDRW 16X16 48 Speed, 0 KB 82945G/GZ graphics controller integrated, no operating system, 88E8052 PCI-E ASF Gigabit Ethernet Controller, 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller, 8 USB, KB, mouse, power cord, Marks & Scratches surface, Bios password protected hard disk sectors reallocated, (B) (Order number: 64,801,851) (128395-50) Two things concern me. First, "Bios password protected. Does this mean that the bios has a password on it and is blocked, ie, I am not able to load a new operating system on it? Also. What Reallocation [ped Sectors on HDD mean?
reassigns the middle sectors were wiped multiple times to ensure that all data on the drive was gone. The seller does not want anyone to be able to use a recovery unit to recover what that was in the unit. Bios password protected could mean that the seller put a password on the BIOS can be set to request the password when trying to enter the BIOS or reboot your computer. I'm thinking that the seller will probably turn this off or give the buyer the password. However most of the time by removing the battery on the board and jumping two pins in particular, can reset the motherboard back to factory state.
